Poem

The greatest obstacle in a writer’s path is lack of confidence.
One of the best tools we posses is adaptability- the ability to change our ideas, thought flow process, and wordings in order to suit a story.
the story we tell in turn, reaches the heart of our intended reader. although, not all stories are effective. to make it more effective;
you could make the story more relatable, you could also make it more dramatic. one key ingredient is knowing the difference between your story, plot and your initial idea and how to synchronize them. for example; my idea is to write a story on a murder mystery, the story could be: on the arrival of the police, “Rebecca shot Alan” then for the plot; “Rebecca shot Alan because he knew too much” but then, “Rebecca is a hired assassin, she killed alan when she discovered that he’s an undercover agent” that further explains why she shot him, which is also a plot. why is this important?
your readers have to know the direction your story is going. they’ve to be informed on every twist and turns, they can’t be left out. doesn’t seem fair enough to read a page or two of your work and be like, “what’s this person talking about?”
The above would lead you to extract the essence of the story into a brief one sentence summary (called a Logline) usually made to stimulate interest. To stimulate interest basically means to reach the heart. that’s the first thing you want to think of before you start writing.
in my next post, there’ll be a continuation on this subject. feel free to leave your comments and let me know if this was helpful.
Today, I’m going to be training every effort towards ‘how to brand yourself’. Many people want a boost in their individual careers but are getting it wrong. How do we undo that wrong and successfully get an advancement in income, get our dream jobs and reach our goals? I’ve got some points that would be of great help!
1. Know yourself.
Some might ask, how do I even do that? Well, you’re planning on building a brand that would show your unique identity to the world and in so doing, revealing your professionalism. Before you reveal yourself to others, you’ve to know who you are. You can start by studying your weaknesses and your strengths. What makes you different? What inspires you? What qualities have others noticed in you? What areas have others felt that you are less competent? Are there any activities you can spend hours on without feeling tired? If all of those questions seems difficult to come up with a positive conclusion, then you need to seek help from a friend, family member, school mate or workmate. Ask them what they think. Their genuine feedback would go a long way in helping you.
You need to pitch your ideas, you can represent them in writing or as a drawing in a piece of paper. The whole idea is to prepare a story in mind of what you want your brand to say, how you want people to view it and where you see yourself headed.
Carve out your own niche, a specific skill you would like to focus on and make it evolve.
2. Who are your audiences?
This is a very important part as the first one is. You have to know who you want to reach out to. Their needs, what they can benefit from your service, you also need to know if they’re on the same page with you (if they meet up to your plan). People often say that you can’t ride to the top without taking inventory of who’s already there. So you got to meet with successful people in your line of focus, be it online or offline. You can ask for informational interviews from successful ones in your desired field. By so doing, you’re learning what it takes to be a professional and at the same time, you’re branding yourself. Then do a personal review by asking yourself; what are they doing? What am I doing wrong? How are they contributing their skills to the best of their abilities? Can I do better?
3. Grow your online presence
Now, this involves a lot. Several people have been dealing with this for a long while now and I’m sure many of you would agree that this isn’t an easy part. You have to begin with your social media. Twitter, facebook, instagram, your social media account(s) have to look engaging. Depending on the content of your social media page, there are different tools to harness your online presence today. Once you have discovered who you want to reach out to (your audience), it becomes a lot much easier to know if you’re able to meet up to their needs and standards.
Lastly, you should also consider building a LinkedIn profile. Is it necessary? You might ask, I would advise you do so if you haven’t. Linkedin is a professional social media tool and also the best site for building your online brand/presence. You could participate in groups, find people that interest you, ask for and give recommendations. A few things that could help your LinkedIn profile further are; focus your profile on key industry skills, measure your skill accomplishments where (and when) possible, complete your profile by filling all that is necessary to convince job recruiters, use a professional photograph. Linkedin users with a professional photograph receive 14 times more profile views than those without. Be professional- avoid busy backgrounds, smile. The more welcoming you look, the more likely you will get contacted by recruiters.
I hope my tips have been helpful so far. You could give suggestions on areas you would like me to talk more on. Remember that the goal remains creating a professional brand for yourself and ‘you alone’. Don’t try to copy what others are doing, don’t try to be like some cool guy you know. Be yourself, look for what works for you. Create your own style and work towards getting to know yourself better, that’s your foundation to building your professional brand.
